Supported Game Modes

Not all versions of Minecraft support every game mode. Here is a summary of the game modes that are supported by the different versions of Minecraft:

Game Modes

When you play in this mode, you will not have a health bar, a hunger bar or an experience bar. You will not be able to kill mobs, take damage or die in the game.

Although you can not start a Minecraft world in Spectator mode (you will have to choose Creative or Survival when you create the world), you can switch to Spectator mode using the /gamemode command.

Spectator is a great mode to use if you have mined underground and have gotten lost or run out of resources. Just switch to Spectator mode and fly up! You can easily find blue skies and the ground. Then switch back to Creative or Survival mode again.

Hardcore

Hardcore mode is only available in Minecraft Java Edition. This mode locks you at the hardest difficulty level and you only have one life!

You can only choose Hardcore when you first create the Minecraft world and there is no way to switch to Hardcore after your world has been created in another game mode.

2. Click the Create New World button to start a new game.

   The Create New World page appears.

3. In the World Name text box, type whatever name you want and click the Create New World button at the bottom of the screen.

To turn on cheats, click the More World Options button, and then click the Allow Cheats button to turn cheats on or off.

Selecting the Right Game Mode in Minecraft

• Survival – after randomly being spawned in a new world, players have to try and survived by gathering material, building shelter, gaining experience, and fighting off hostile mobs.
• Creative – a game mode where players have immediate access to almost all blocks and items, are invulnerable & immunes to death, and have the ability to fly. The purpose of this game mode is to create / design unique worlds.
• Adventure – players interact with objects (levers, buttons) and mobs to complete an adventure.
• Spectator – Invisible to everything and cannot interact with blocks, entities, or your inventory. This mode is typically used to observe other player’s created worlds.
• Hardcore – Similar to survival mode, Hardcore is set to the “hard” difficulty level permanently and players cannot respawn; once you die, the map is deleted (or you permanently become a spectator).
